We are so happy to have you as a part of this very talented and creative group of families at West Ridge Elementary. It is our goal to ensure that your children have the best start to their learning experience.

Tips from your Kindergarten Teachers

  • Read daily with your child and ask them questions about the story. (What is your favorite part? Who are the characters? How does the story end?)

  • Help your child develop independence with feeling prepared for the day. Make sure they can gather what they need each morning (backpack, folder, lunchbox, water bottle and snack) .

  • Make sure your child is able to open their lunch and snack items independently. If they are unable to open certain containers, try packing them in different options like Ziploc bags.

  • Make sure to have your child get back into a good “school sleep” schedule at least a week before they begin. It will ensure for better mornings and help with any “first day jitters”!

  • Have your child practice cutting, pasting and creating! Using scissors, glue sticks, Play-Doh and tracers are excellent ways to improve their skills.

What is a typical day like in Kindergarten?

School starts at 8:35 am and ends at 3:20 pm (with the exception of the 1st day which starts at 9:00 am).

The below chart takes you through their day from left to right. The top row is the morning and the bottom row begins the afternoon with lunch/recess.

Please click on the below link to the Orientation Information for details on snack, drop off and pick up areas and times and more details on their daily lessons and activities.

1. You will often hear people around school talk about the "MPR". This acronym stands for "Multi-Purpose Room". The West Ridge Multi-Purpose Room is used for gym classes, lunch, school assemblies and more. It is located at the front of the school to the right of the school main entrance. This is also where you will drop off your kindergarteners in the morning before 8:30 am.

2.  West Ridge holds a pep rally on the first Friday of every month during school hours. Each grade presents a skit or other fun activity on a monthly rotational basis. Students can wear their spirit wear to show their support for the Owls!
